As the field of COIL matures, so too do calls for assessing learning outcomes. During this interactive session, we explore some of the 60+ assessment instruments related to global citizenship, intercultural competence development and similar constructs. Particular focus will be on the Global Perspectives Inventory (GPI), the Beliefs, Events, and Values Inventory (BEVI), and the myCAP (My Cultural Awareness Profile) Results of a mixed-methods study of an eight-week SOIL (Structured Online Intercultural Learning) course will be shared, along with the voices of students who participated in the course that was the basis for this study. In addition to two quantitative instruments, students completed a post-course satisfaction survey, the results of which will inform the design for future iterations of the SOIL course. We will be joined by Dr. Elena Oncevska (via Zoom), one of the co-facilitators of the course. This session is suitable for persons at all stages of engagement with SOIL/COIL pedagogy and practice.
