Location: Arts Room
This session will draw on an OIL project which aimed to raise intercultural awareness and develop the business communication skills of undergraduate international students. Involving collaboration between institutions in the UK, Belgium and Finland, small groups of business students delivered product pitch presentations to another cohort, then responded. The workshop will offer opportunities to discuss samples of interactions between the students (via extracts from transcripts, video and audio). Participants in the session will be able to assess the extent to which this simulation scenario raises intercultural competence and how the different tasks provide practical skills training that is relevant to the workplace. Student perspectives on the process will also be considered. Key stages of the OIL project will be outlined, allowing delegates to contribute in different ways via digital polling software, small group discussions and worksheets. It will be an interactive session in which participants' views and suggestions are welcomed.
