Carine Ullom recently completed a doctorate, focusing on "Developing Global Citizen Identity Among Preservice Teachers: The Role of Globally Networked Learning Environments.”  Her mixed-methods study incorporated two quantitative instruments, along with several student-generated artifacts.  She coined the term SOIL (Structured Online Intercultural Learning).  Ullom has twenty years of experience in educational technology and 10 years as an instructional designer.  One of her SOIL courses received a Gold Award in Teaching from the United States Distance Learning Association.
